Personal detail does not clarify a career gap. Record dates, choose a neutral label, show provable work and prepare the spoken answer. Exam preparation, caregiving, health breaks and job searches need different wording, but none is employment.
Build the factual timeline before writing the resume
Start with a 45-minute audit. List each role, break, course, project and exam-preparation period. Use month-year on the resume and keep exact dates privately for application forms and background checks.

The employment entry is Software Support Engineer | Jul 2021-Aug 2023. The break is Sep 2023-May 2024: four months from Sep-Dec plus five from Jan-May, so 4 + 5 = 9 months. The refresh overlaps the break and is not a job.

Use three parts: fact, useful bridge and forward direction. Stop after 25-40 seconds unless asked.

Its dates, reason and values match the resume. Use only true variants:
Exam preparation: “From January to October 2024, I prepared full time for a competitive exam. I did not reach my target result, but I strengthened my CS fundamentals and kept coding through a small Java API project. I am now focused fully on backend roles.”
Health: “I took a personal health break from January to June 2024. I am ready to return to full-time work, and I have refreshed Java and SQL for backend roles.”
Extended search: “After my role ended in May 2024, I ran a focused job search and used the time to complete two deployable projects. I am now targeting junior backend roles that match that work.”

Total: 45 + 60 + 45 + 45 + 20 + 5 + 20 = 240 minutes, or four hours. If Day 3 is missed, Day 5's 25 minutes plus Day 6's 20 gives 25 + 20 = 45 minutes for evidence. Move mock practice and correction to the next available day. Do not rush evidence, script practice and review together.
