A graduate is not eligible for every IBPS SO post. When the notification prints a closed list of qualifications, a similar sounding degree title is unsafe. Checking your degree against a Scale I post ends one of three ways: it matches the printed route, it clearly does not, or only IBPS can settle the wording. The routes quoted here are the ones printed in the 30 June 2026 CRP SPL-XVI notification; the notice open for your own cycle decides.
IBPS SO eligibility starts with the post, not with "any graduate"
CRP SPL-XVI named six Scale I routes: IT Officer, Agricultural Field Officer, Rajbhasha Adhikari, Law Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer. It allowed one post per candidate, so match your degree before preparing.
SO eligibility turns on a named professional discipline, which is what separates it from the generalist bank officer route. IBPS PO Eligibility and Exam Pattern 2026 sets out what a plain graduate degree opens, and the IBPS PO & SO IT Exam Preparation hub keeps both tracks together.
Match the exact credential, duration, discipline and companion condition. CRP SPL-XVI rejected equivalent qualifications outside its stated routes.
IBPS SO degree-to-post map for all six Scale I roles
Post | Qualification route in CRP SPL-XVI | Extra condition that can change the answer | What candidates get wrong |
|---|---|---|---|
IT Officer | 4-year Engineering/Technology in Computer Science, Computer Applications, IT, Electronics, Electronics and Telecommunications, Electronics and Communication, or Electronics and Instrumentation; corresponding listed PG in electronics, CS, IT or Computer Applications; or graduation + DOEACC B level | Each route has its own credential rule | Assuming a 3-year BCA on its own qualifies |
Agricultural Field Officer | 4-year graduation in Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Dairy Science, Fishery Science, Pisciculture, Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation, Cooperation and Banking, Agro-Forestry/Forestry, Agricultural Biotechnology, B.Tech Biotechnology, Food Science, Agriculture Business Management, Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Agricultural Engineering, Sericulture or Fisheries Engineering | Duration and listed discipline both matter | Assuming any agriculture-related degree qualifies |
Rajbhasha Adhikari | PG Hindi + English at graduation, or PG Sanskrit + English and Hindi at graduation | Graduation-subject evidence is mandatory | Assuming the PG alone is enough |
Law Officer | LL.B | Bar Council enrolment as an advocate | Assuming the LL.B alone is enough |
HR/Personnel Officer | Graduation + 2-year full-time PG degree/diploma in Personnel Management, Industrial Relations, HR, HRD, Social Work or Labour Law | Mode, duration and field all matter | Assuming any management qualification qualifies |
Marketing Officer | Graduation + 2-year full-time MMS/MBA in Marketing, or PGDBA/PGDBM/PGPM/PGDM with Marketing | Marketing must be one of two dual specialisations, or the major in a major/minor structure; programmes with over two specialisations were excluded | Assuming a Marketing minor is enough |
For the five non-IT posts, CRP SPL-XVI also asked for computer literacy evidence: a certificate, diploma or degree in computer operations, or Computer and IT studied as a subject at school, college or institute. Language proficiency for the state you apply to was a separate condition. Recheck both in your cycle's notice.

IBPS SO IT Officer eligibility: test the exact route
Riya's file:
Duration: her Electronics and Communication B.Tech is four years.
Discipline: Electronics and Communication is listed.
Result date: 15 July 2026 is on or before the 21 July 2026 cut-off.
Riya matches the IT Officer route as CRP SPL-XVI printed it, subject to the notification's remaining conditions.
Aman's file:
His three-year BCA is not a four-year Engineering/Technology degree.
He has neither a listed PG nor DOEACC B level.
Aman matches none of the three IT Officer routes CRP SPL-XVI listed, and a related degree title cannot fill that gap. Candidates who do clear the qualification bar can work through the IBPS SO IT Officer Professional Knowledge topic map to plan study breadth; it settles what to revise, not whether you are eligible.
Marketing, HR, Law and Rajbhasha: compound conditions matter
Nisha has a B.Com, a two-year full-time PGDM with Marketing major and Finance minor, and Class XII Computer Applications. Graduation, duration, mode, major and computer evidence all line up with the Marketing Officer route as CRP SPL-XVI printed it. Make Marketing the minor instead and the same file fails the major and minor rule.
LL.B + Bar Council enrolment completes the Law route. Without enrolment, it is incomplete.
MA Hindi + English as a BA subject completes the Rajbhasha route. Without that English evidence, it is incomplete.
Graduation + two-year full-time PGDM in HR matches the HR route. A one-year HR diploma does not.
Every one of those rules is printed in CRP SPL-XVI. Do not accept "People Management" or "Business Management" as an equivalent by analogy. Where your programme's printed title is not the one listed, ask IBPS before applying.
IBPS SO Agricultural Field Officer eligibility: duration, discipline and result date
For Meera, duration first: her B.Sc Agriculture is a four-year degree. Then discipline: Agriculture appears in the listed set. Then the result date: 10 July 2026 falls before the 21 July cut-off. She matches the Agricultural Field Officer route as CRP SPL-XVI printed it, subject to the notification's remaining conditions.
Dev's B.Sc Agricultural Studies runs three years, not four. A similar title cannot override the duration, so his file misses the route CRP SPL-XVI listed. Use the degree name and duration printed on your university documents, not a nickname or a coaching summary.
IBPS SO eligibility self-audit before applying
Complete four rows from your documents:
Check | Nisha's completed row |
|---|---|
Exact post code/name | Marketing Officer |
Exact degree and duration | B.Com + 2-year full-time PGDM, Marketing major/Finance minor |
Mandatory companion evidence | Class XII Computer Applications |
Final-result date plus institution recognition | Result declared 18 June 2026; recognition to be confirmed from institutional documents |
Four matches mean the file provisionally fits the qualification wording. One clear mismatch means do not claim eligibility. An unfamiliar specialisation means seek IBPS clarification. Application acceptance is not final eligibility proof.
Open the official Specialist Officers XVI page, choose your cycle's notice and search for EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS. Save that page with the applicable evidence.
IBPS SO preparation comes after the degree match
Once a post matches, the stage structure decides the study plan. The IT Officer route runs a Prelims of English, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude, a Mains built on Professional Knowledge, and an interview as the final selection stage. Your degree earns its advantage in the Mains, so treat Prelims as a speed problem and Mains as a syllabus problem.
KnowledgeGate course | What it prepares |
|---|---|
IBPS SO IT Prelims Preparation Course | English, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude |
Technical Professional Knowledge subjects | |
Mock interviews, technical discussion, banking awareness and HR questions |
The short version
Write your exact degree, duration, specialisation and companion evidence beside one post, compare that line against the notice open for your cycle, then start preparing. The courses above support IT Officer preparation alone; they neither prove eligibility nor cover the other five posts.
