SBI Clerk Eligibility: Graduation and Local Language Checklist

Being a graduate and knowing a regional language are not enough on their own. Use this document-by-document audit to check how the two conditions connect.

Being a graduate and speaking a regional language does not by itself establish SBI Clerk eligibility. Your application State or UT, one opted language, Class 10 or 12 evidence, language-test route and graduation result date must agree with the same notification. Advertisement CRPD/CR/2025-26/06 shows how those files had to line up in one dated cycle. For your cycle, the latest SBI notice and corrigenda are final.

Check the four connected gates, not graduation alone

Check in this order:

  1. Choose a State or UT with an eligible vacancy.

  2. Copy its specified language, selecting one where alternatives appear.

  3. See whether Class 10 or 12 proof removes the language-test requirement.

  4. Prove graduation by the notification's cut-off.

Passing one gate cannot repair failure at another. The 2025-26 advertisement accepted graduation in any discipline from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government. Its academic cut-off was 31 December 2025, and its language condition followed the State or UT and language chosen in the application. It did not specify a minimum graduation percentage.

Graduation and local language are only two of the conditions in that notice. Age, nationality and reservation evidence are settled on their own separate documents, so clearing these two gates settles part of the file, not all of it. The IBPS PO eligibility guide runs the same document-by-document check against the IBPS notice, but only SBI's notice decides Junior Associates eligibility.

Your State or UT choice fixes the language check

In the dated advertisement, a candidate could apply in one State or UT only and had to opt for one language for the test. Gujarat listed Gujarati, Maharashtra listed Marathi, and Telangana listed Telugu/Urdu. A Telangana applicant choosing Urdu audits Urdu, not both languages.

Neha lives in Delhi, studied Hindi in Class 10 and wants a Gujarat vacancy. Gujarat required Gujarati in that advertisement's language table. Her residence and Hindi proof therefore do not establish the specified language, so she should not submit until she can meet the stated Gujarati route.

The advertisement also said recruited Junior Associates had no Inter Circle or Inter State transfer. It allowed specified intra-state movement between the two circles in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana under bank guidelines. A preferred exam centre or present address is not State-language evidence.

Separate school proof from the proficiency test

Under the 2025-26 notice, a provisionally selected candidate with a Class 10 or 12 mark sheet or certificate showing the opted local language was not tested. Other provisionally selected candidates took the test after selection and before joining. Failure meant no appointment. Proficiency covered reading, writing, speaking and understanding.

Arjun selects Telangana and Urdu. His Class 12 mark sheet lists Urdu, so it met the exemption exactly as that notice worded it. Kavya selects Telangana and Telugu but has only English and Hindi in both school records. Speaking Telugu at home does not exempt her. She must qualify the Telugu test before joining.

“I can speak it” covers only one of four abilities and is not the specified school evidence. A language studied only during graduation should not be claimed as the exemption unless the latest notice changes the rule.

Graduation depends on the passing date

Final-year or final-semester candidates could apply provisionally, but selected candidates had to prove they passed on or before 31 December 2025. The same boundary applied to integrated dual-degree holders.

Priya wrote her final paper on 18 November 2025. Her provisional certificate records 29 December 2025, and her convocation is on 15 February 2026. For this example, 29.12.2025 <= 31.12.2025, so she clears the timing gate. Rohan's result is dated 2 January 2026. Since 02.01.2026 > 31.12.2025, November papers do not rescue his file.

The advertisement treated the date on the mark sheet, certificate or provisional certificate as the passing date. If a university posted a result online, it accepted a certificate from the appropriate university authority stating the posting date. A result posted on 30 December 2025 can be evidenced by such a certificate issued later. An unsupported screenshot is not that certificate.

Run the joined audit end to end

Three files, each pairing the two gates differently:

  • Asha: Maharashtra, Marathi on her Class 10 mark sheet, BCom passed on 29 December 2025. She is document-exempt for Marathi and within the dated graduation boundary.

  • Imran: Telangana, Urdu on his Class 12 mark sheet, degree result dated 2 January 2026. Language evidence passes, but graduation timing fails.

  • Meenal: Gujarat, BA passed on 30 November 2025, no Gujarati in Class 10 or 12. Graduation timing passes, but she must qualify the Gujarati test before joining.

Three-lane SBI Clerk eligibility flow headed “CRPD/CR/2025-26/06 dated example”. Each lane runs from State or UT and one opted language, to whether Class 10 or 12 lists that language, to the language test taken after provisional selection and before joining, to whether the graduation passing date falls on or before 31.12.2025. Asha: Maharashtra, Marathi on Class 10, BCom 29.12.2025, both gates ticked. Imran: Telangana, Urdu on Class 12, degree 02.01.2026, language ticked and graduation stopped. Meenal: Gujarat, no Gujarati on Class 10 or 12, BA 30.11.2025, graduation ticked and “Gujarati test required” flagged in orange. A footer band reads that passing these two gates is not a complete eligibility decision and that the reader should rebuild from the latest SBI notice.

Reaching an exam or selection stage is not proof that every eligibility statement was accepted. In this dated notice, final selection still depended on eligibility verification and the local-language test where required.

The short version and the next sensible step

  1. Open SBI Careers current openings.

  2. Download the latest Junior Associates notice and every corrigendum.

  3. Copy its exact State or UT and one opted language.

  4. Put the Class 10 or 12 language proof beside the graduation or provisional certificate.

  5. Compare the passing-date and language-test routes before submitting.

Keep eligibility separate from preparation. The SBI PO vs IBPS PO guide and SBI PO syllabus and exam pattern guide help compare officer and clerk routes, but neither replaces the latest Junior Associates advertisement.

After the audit, the SBI course family is where the SBI preparation material sits. If you are also weighing the officer route, the SBI PO Prelims course covers that separate officer stage, not the Junior Associates clerk cadre.
