Exam prep & CS education

ICT-in-education questions mix five similar-looking layers: file formats, software tools, interfaces and peripherals, learning platforms, and public initiatives. Without classifying the layer, you may confuse MP3 with a player, OCR with a file format, or SWAYAM with another scheme. Attempt each question first, then write a five-to-ten-word reason before reading the explanation. Use NET preparation for connected Paper I study. Practise Questions 1-5 on their dedicated pages. For Questions 6-12, continue through the ICT in Education PYQ Questions hub; individual pages are unavailable in that module.
Build a five-layer ICT model before solving the questions
In one classroom workflow, a teacher records lecture.mp3. A 4000 x 3000 camera image gives 12,000,000 pixels = 12 MP. A USB microphone sends data serially, a GUI provides icons and buttons, OCR makes scanned text machine-readable, and a platform delivers the lesson.
Layer | Examples |
|---|---|
Content/file |
|
Application | Windows Media Player, VLC, GIMP |
Interface/device | GUI, USB, OCR |
Platform | SWAYAM, NPTEL, Udemy, Skillshare, Khan Academy |
Public initiative/resource | e-ShodhSindhu, PM e-Vidya |
Use the five-layer model to sort exam cues, not as a formal ICT architecture. OCR is software, even though Question 5 places it beside USB and GUI in a matching list. The earlier ICT for Teaching Exams: Fundamentals Explained owns computer hardware, internet, email and e-learning foundations; these MCQs focus on file/tool distinctions and named education initiatives.

ICT in Education MCQs 1-3: audio files and the software that handles them
Question 1
KVS 2023
Which of the following is an example of an audio file?
A. music.png
B. music.avi
C. music.mp3
D. music.gif
Correct answer: C. music.mp3.
Here .mp3 is audio, .png and .gif are images, and .avi is the video-container distractor. lecture.mp3 is content; its player is an application. Extensions do not prove contents.
Practise this question.
Question 2
KVS 2023
Which of the following software is the default to play audio files in Windows computer system?
A. VLC Media Player
B. Windows Media Center
C. Windows Media Player
D. Quick Time Player
Correct answer: C. Windows Media Player.
The KVS 2023 key selects Windows Media Player from these options. Windows versions and user settings can change the default; VLC and QuickTime are alternatives, while Windows Media Center is a different product.
Practise this question.
Question 3
KVS 2023
Which of the following software cannot be used to play audio files?
A. VLC media player
B. Windows media player
C. Kodi media center
D. GIMP
Correct answer: D. GIMP.
GIMP is the mismatch: it edits images, while the others are media players. Pair lecture.mp3 with a player and diagram.gif with an image editor. The item tests ordinary use.
Practise this question.
ICT in Education MCQs 4-5: camera resolution, USB, GUI, GIF and OCR
Question 4
EMRS 2023
Anvita Deshpande is helping a friend to buy a new smartphone. After seeing the configurations of a few phones, they got confused with what is represented with Megapixel as a unit?
A. Screen Size
B. Battery Capacity
C. Internal Memory
D. Camera Resolution
Correct answer: D. Camera Resolution.
For an image measuring 4000 x 3000 pixels:
4000 x 3000 = 12,000,000 pixels = 12 MP
Megapixels measure resolution. Screen size uses length, battery capacity uses ampere-hours, and storage uses bytes such as GB. Resolution alone does not determine camera quality.
Practise this question.
Question 5
KVS 2023
Match the terms given in List-I with their nature/use in List-II.
List - I List - II
(A) USB (I) Enables user to access programs on a computer through image objects that are linked to the programs
(B) GUI (II) A file format used for compressed image files
(C) GIF (III) A software designed to take a scanned text as input and convert it into its ASCII coded equivalent
(D) OCR (IV) Connects peripherals in which data is transmitted serially
A. (A)-(I), (B)-(II), (C)-(III), (D)-(IV)
B. (A)-(II), (B)-(III), (C)-(IV), (D)-(I)
C. (A)-(III), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(II)
D. (A)-(IV), (B)-(I), (C)-(II), (D)-(III)
Correct answer: D. (A)-(IV), (B)-(I), (C)-(II), (D)-(III).
Match distinctive pairs: USB connects peripherals serially (A-IV); GUI uses icons (B-I); GIF is an image format (C-II); OCR converts scanned text (D-III). Only D fits.
Practise this question.
ICT in Education MCQs 6-8: SWAYAM, learning platforms and course portals
Question 6
UGC NET 2024
The Acronym 'SWAYAM' represents -
A. Scopus Web of Attentive learning for Youth and Apt Minds
B. Social Web of Agent learning for Youth and Adult Minds
C. Study Webs of Active learning for Young Aspiring Minds
D. Science Web of Aspirants and Young Active Minds
Correct answer: C. Study Webs of Active learning for Young Aspiring Minds.
Expand all six letters: S = Study, W = Webs, A = Active, Y = Young, A = Aspiring, M = Minds. Distractors substitute plausible words. Check each initial.
Question 7
UGC NET 2023
Match List - I with List - II
List - I (Online Learning Platforms) | List - II (Respective Features) |
|---|---|
(A) Swayam | (I) Paid courses on creative and entrepreneurial topics |
(B) Udemy | (II) Free courses from Indian universities |
(C) Skillshare | (III) Video lectures and interactive exercises for K-12 students |
(D) Khan Academy | (IV) Paid courses on various topics |
Choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
A. (A)-(I), (B)-(II), (C)-(III), (D)-(IV)
B. (A)-(II), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(III)
C. (A)-(IV), (B)-(III), (C)-(II), (D)-(I)
D. (A)-(III), (B)-(I), (C)-(IV), (D)-(II)
Correct answer: B. (A)-(II), (B)-(IV), (C)-(I), (D)-(III).
Khan Academy -> III and Skillshare -> I are the strongest pairs in the UGC NET 2023 item. The remaining pairs force SWAYAM -> II and Udemy -> IV, giving B. Platform catalogues change, so solve the supplied pairings rather than treating them as timeless descriptions.
Question 8
UGC NET 2020
Which of the following portals include the list of 'on-line courses'?
(a) ariia.gov.in
(b) swayam.gov.in
(c) mic.ac.in
(d) nptel.ac.in
Choose the correct option from those given below:
A. a) and c) only
B. a) and d) only
C. b) and c) only
D. b) and d) only
Correct answer: D. b) and d) only.
The UGC NET 2020 key identifies SWAYAM and NPTEL, b and d. Match that pair to option D; consult the current portals for present-day course listings.
ICT in Education MCQs 9-10: e-ShodhSindhu and the SWAYAM/e-Tantra spelling trap
Question 9
UGC NET 2020
MHRD, Government of India, initiative e-ShodhSindhu provides students and researchers access to
A. Indian Ph.D. thesis in electronic form
B. e-journals
C. Plagiarism software
D. Open source software for training in analytical techniques
Correct answer: B. e-journals.
The UGC NET 2020 key connects e-ShodhSindhu with e-journals. Attach that resource type instead of choosing every research-related distractor; check the official portal for current subscriptions, eligibility and scope.
Question 10
UGC NET 2020
Given below are two statements:
Statement I: 'SWAYAM', an initiative of the Government of India, aims at promoting self-help groups in rural areas.
Statement II: 'e-Tantra' is an initiative to spread education in embedded systems and robotics by IIT Mumbai through MHRD-NMEICT.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:
A. Both Statement I and Statement II are true
B. Both Statement I and Statement II are false
C. Statement I is correct but Statement II is false
D. Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is true
Correct answer: B. Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
Test separately. Statement I gives SWAYAM the wrong purpose. Statement II says e-Tantra, not the familiar robotics name e-Yantra. False plus false selects B.
ICT in Education MCQs 11-12: multimode access and chronological ordering
Question 11
UGC NET 2024
Which of the following are the primary goals of PM e-Vidya?
A. To provide free text-books to all students

C | Reject | Not keyed as an access goal |
D | Retain | Comprehensive accessibility |
E | Retain | Remote-area access |
The UGC NET 2024 item groups B, D and E as access-related goals. Retaining B leaves option C, and D and E share its accessibility theme; verify the initiative's current scope on the official PM e-Vidya portal.
Question 12
UGC NET 2025
Arrange the given digital initiatives of Govt. of India in chronological order as per their year of launch:
A. e-gyankosh
B. PM e-Vidya

B. E, C, A, B, D
C. D, A, E, B, C
D. B, A, C, E, D
Correct answer: A. C, A, D, E, B.
Expand the sequence: C -> A -> D -> E -> B means NPTEL -> e-gyankosh -> e-PG Pathshala -> SWAYAM -> PM e-Vidya, exactly A. See the Paper I context.
Turn every wrong answer into a five-layer error ledger
Make a 12-row ledger: my answer, correct answer, layer, and a five-to-ten-word reason.
Question | My answer | Correct answer | Layer | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Q1 | chose AVI | MP3 | content/file |
|
Q5 | chose C | D | interface/device | USB-IV, GUI-I, GIF-II, OCR-III |
Q12 | chose D | A | public initiative | expand C-A-D-E-B before matching |
Recheck files versus applications, units versus quality, acronyms, near-spellings such as e-Tantra, and sequences. After one day, revisit blank layers or reasons.
The short version
Classify first and solve pairings from the strongest clue. Treat dated statements as historical, and confirm current details on the official page before you rely on them. Build concepts with the NTA UGC NET Paper 1 Course, or practise with the NTA UGC NET Paper 1 Test Series. Explain every correction in one line.
