IBPS SO is not one generic job with interchangeable labels. Your chosen stream controls whether you are eligible, the professional knowledge you must prepare and the broad work domain you may enter after allotment. The streams are IT Officer, Agricultural Field Officer, Law Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer. Rajbhasha Adhikari is the sixth notified stream.

Start with the application decision: one specialist post, not five

The IBPS CRP SPL-XVI notification dated 30 June 2026 and the 20 July 2026 corrigendum are the controlling sources for this recruitment. The notice allows only one post per candidate and says multiple applications will be summarily rejected. The earlier IBPS SO Roles Compared: IT, Law, HR, Marketing or Agriculture? is the detailed reference for five-stream qualification and likely-work tables. Continue here for the next decision layer: edge-case document checks, the one-post application constraint, an official-pattern checkpoint and an evidence-led shortlist when two streams remain.

IBPS SO eligibility edge cases: five document checks

Use IBPS SO Eligibility by Degree: Match Your Qualification to the Right Specialist Post for the full six-role degree map. The cases below isolate rules that its worked profiles do not test. Assume each candidate meets the age, nationality, state-language, recognition and result-date conditions in SPL-XVI. The conclusion here concerns the stated qualification file only; IBPS and the allotted bank make the final verification decision.

  1. Sana: B.Sc Mathematics plus a postgraduate diploma in Computer Applications, with no DOEACC B level. Not eligible for IT Officer through this file. SPL-XVI accepts a listed postgraduate degree in Computer Applications, not a postgraduate diploma, and it accepts no equivalent qualification.

  2. Gopal: four-year B.Tech in Food Technology, with Computer Science studied at school. Provisionally eligible for Agricultural Field Officer because Food Technology is a listed four-year allied degree and his file also covers the non-IT computer-literacy condition.

  3. Leena: five-year integrated B.A. LL.B, enrolled as an advocate with a Bar Council, with Information Technology studied in Class X. Provisionally eligible for Law Officer because the integrated qualification contains the required bachelor degree in law, Bar Council enrolment is documented and the non-IT computer condition is covered.

  4. Omkar: B.A. plus a two-year part-time Master of Social Work. Not eligible for HR/Personnel Officer through this route. Social Work is listed, but SPL-XVI requires the two-year postgraduate programme to be full-time.

  5. Yusuf: BBA plus a two-year full-time MBA carrying Marketing, Finance and Operations as three specialisations. Not eligible for Marketing Officer because SPL-XVI excludes MMS, MBA and postgraduate diploma programmes with more than two specialisations, even when Marketing is one of them.

IBPS SO exam pattern: use the official SPL-XVI checkpoint

The 30 June 2026 IBPS CRP SPL-XVI notification, read with the 20 July 2026 corrigendum, is the authority for every figure in this paragraph. Its preliminary-exam tables state 100 questions, 125 marks and 80 minutes for each of these five posts. They list English, Reasoning and Professional Knowledge for all five; Quantitative Aptitude appears for IT, Agriculture, HR and Marketing, while Law uses General Awareness with special reference to banking. The same notice assigns Professional Knowledge 25 questions and 50 marks. Check the linked official page and any later corrigendum for your own cycle. Use IBPS SO Exam Pattern: Prelims, Mains and Professional Knowledge Explained to connect the sections to the selection stages without treating one cycle's figures as permanent.

Evidence-led role-fit worksheet for a candidate eligible for two streams

Zoya has a four-year B.Tech in CS and a two-year full-time MBA with Marketing as her major. The current rules let her consider IT Officer or Marketing Officer, but she must submit only one application. She records observed evidence instead of assigning preference points.

Evidence to record

IT Officer

Marketing Officer

Eligibility file

B.Tech in CS matches a listed route

Two-year full-time MBA with Marketing major matches a listed route

Seven-day subject sample

Completed three DBMS and networking blocks; logged the errors

Completed one marketing block; skipped two planned blocks

Relevant task evidence

Can explain a CS project and one incident-debugging example

Has no campaign or customer-research example yet

Unknown to verify

The allotted bank decides the exact desk

The allotted bank decides targets, travel and the exact desk

Recorded choice

Keep on the shortlist

Hold until stronger subject and task evidence exists

Zoya chooses IT because eligibility is equal but recent subject work and task evidence are not. No invented number converts preference into fact. Marketing stays open only if another preparation sample produces comparable evidence and the current notice still accepts her credential.

Short version and next step

Reject any stream whose qualification line you cannot document. Among eligible streams, choose by professional-subject evidence and realistic work interest. Verify the current notice on ibps.in before applying. IT-focused readers can continue with the IBPS SO IT Mains Preparation Course; readers still comparing banking routes can use the Banking & Insurance Exam Preparation category. Law, Agriculture, HR and Marketing candidates need stream-specific resources outside that IT course.
