One Computer Science base does not make TPSC and BPSC interchangeable, because the two commissions are not advertising the same shape of job. Bihar's Computer Science teaching line has a standing name, the Bihar Teacher Recruitment Examination, and preparing for it runs wider than Computer Science. The TPSC Computer Science route our own coverage documents in full is a technical officer post, and its core is Computer Science and nothing else. Which shape fits your degree, your classroom language and your willingness to relocate is the real question. Still choosing between recruitment families? Start with Which Teaching CS Exam to Target.
TPSC and BPSC are commissions, not fixed exam patterns
Each commission advertises a post, and the post carries the rules. There is no permanent "TPSC teaching exam" or "BPSC teaching exam" pattern that survives from one cycle to the next.
Read in this order: the advertisement, any corrigenda, the syllabus or scheme, the exam programme, then the results. Both commissions have advertised Computer Science posts before, which tells you the routes are real, not that this year's rules match last year's.
What each side actually is, as far as our own published coverage and the two commissions' own sites establish it:
What you are comparing | BPSC route | TPSC route |
|---|---|---|
Commission and state | Bihar Public Service Commission, recruiting for Bihar | Tripura Public Service Commission, recruiting for Tripura |
Named Computer Science route | Bihar Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE), for teaching posts in Bihar government schools | Computer Science appears under more than one post; the fullest published core belongs to Assistant Technical Officer (Computer Science) |
Is it a school teaching post | Yes, that is what TRE recruits for | Assistant Technical Officer is a technical post, so a teaching post in Tripura needs its own live advertisement |
How our coverage is organised | Three parts: a language part, a general studies part (primary maths, reasoning, general awareness), and the Computer Science subject part | One technical core of seven Computer Science areas, with no language, general studies or pedagogy part |
Classroom or working language | Instruction in Bihar government schools is generally in Hindi | Bengali is the dominant classroom language in Tripura, and Kokborok is used in some schools |
Marks, question counts, duration, negative marking, vacancies and cutoff dates come only from the advertisement you are applying against.
Gate one: audit the exact post and qualification
Audit six things against each commission's current notification: the exact post title including the school level it names, the accepted degree list, any required teaching credential or eligibility test, the experience requirement, the age limit on the notice's own cutoff date, and the documents you must produce. Mark each one MATCH, HOLD or DOES NOT MATCH.
A route moves forward only when all six read MATCH on the notice's own wording, and an unknown is a HOLD rather than a pass. Similar degrees are not automatically equivalent, a high Computer Science score cannot replace a mandatory credential, and whether an MCA without a B.Ed qualifies is not something to infer. The notified wording settles it, and a course page, ours or anyone else's, never can.
Gate two: separate language, documents and location
Language or medium, required documents, and willingness to actually live and work in the state are three separate checks, and local familiarity proves none of them. BPSC recruits for Bihar, where classroom instruction is generally in Hindi. TPSC recruits for Tripura, where Bengali is the dominant classroom language and Kokborok is used in some schools. If you cannot teach comfortably in the state's medium, or will not genuinely relocate, that route belongs on your watchlist regardless of your Computer Science strength.
Score those two honestly, two marks each, and read the total as a personal fit tally out of four that means nothing officially. Fluent in Hindi and ready to move to Bihar scores 2 and 2, so 4 out of 4 on the BPSC lane. No Bengali and no intention of moving to Tripura scores 0 and 0, so 0 out of 4 on the TPSC lane. A lane at 4 out of 4 still opens only once all six qualification checks read MATCH; a lane at 0 out of 4 goes on the watchlist until the next notice.

Gate three: calculate syllabus reuse
Tag every line of both current official syllabi shared, TPSC only, BPSC only or unclear, counting a topic as shared only when both documents support it. Our own coverage already shows roughly where that lands.
The TPSC Assistant Technical Officer Computer Science core runs to seven areas: Programming Concepts, Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems, DBMS, Computer Networks, Software Engineering and Computer Organization. Our BPSC TRE Computer Science part spans those same seven and adds three more, Digital Electronics, Theory of Computation with Compiler Design, and an emerging trends block covering AI, societal ethics and office tools. Our TPSC ATO Computer Science Syllabus in Prerequisite Order takes that seven area core block by block.
So the reuse runs almost entirely one way. Build the TPSC technical core and the Computer Science part of the BPSC route is already covered. Build for BPSC and you additionally carry a language part and a general studies part that the Assistant Technical Officer core never asks for. Confirm both lists against the current official syllabi, and take weights and question counts from the notifications rather than from any coverage map.
That asymmetry, not your preference, sets your weekly split. On a ten hour week aimed at both routes: six hours on the shared seven area core, two on the BPSC only technical blocks, one on language and general studies, one on mixed testing, and 6 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 10 hours. Shift hours toward whichever route has a live notice, and toward your weakest block after each test. Once your own notices confirm the inclusions, the Teaching Recruitment Exams Bundle covers the ground these teaching routes share.
Gate four: let the current notice override preference
Before ranking the routes, confirm from each current notification whether a live matching post exists, plus the qualification wording, the teaching credential requirement, the language and document rules, the syllabus, and the selection stages. Anything left unverified keeps that route on the watchlist, however well it scored in gate two.
Both commissions publish that material themselves. Read the current advertisement and every corrigendum in full on the Tripura Public Service Commission site and the Bihar Public Service Commission site. Exam calendars and answer keys from earlier cycles are practice material; they do not establish this cycle's rules.
Gate five: decide in order, not by preference
Decision order: official eligibility, then personal language and location fit, then syllabus reuse, then study capacity. A later check cannot repair an earlier mandatory failure, and no amount of syllabus overlap clears a HOLD on a degree clause.
Only once that order runs clean does preparation material matter. If BPSC comes out as your primary route, the BPSC TRE 4.0 preparation course gives you the three part coverage already sequenced. If TPSC does, build the Assistant Technical Officer core in prerequisite order rather than subject by subject.
The short verdict and next action
Choose TPSC first when a live matching notice, six MATCH results and genuine Tripura readiness line up. Choose BPSC first when its equivalent checks line up, accepting its wider language and general studies load as part of the deal. Keep both live only when both have current notices and the extra blocks stay manageable. Otherwise keep the weaker route on a watchlist and stop splitting hours across it.
Comparing more than these two? Govt Teaching Job Exam Preparation collects the rest of the state teaching Computer Science material, and pedagogy earns a place in your plan only where your own notice names it.
Now download both current notices, run the six item audit against their exact wording, score the two mark language and relocation checks, and write one status against each route: primary, watchlist, or not eligible on this notice.
