The working life around it is not.

A Navodaya posting puts you on a residential campus, where evening study, hostel routine, and children living away from home are part of the job rather than an extra duty. A Kendriya Vidyalaya posting is a conventional day school inside a national network. Neither changes what you revise for the written test, but both change the answers you should be giving in a teaching-aptitude question or an interview.

What matters for your study plan is that the knowledge tested overlaps heavily. The general section, the teaching-aptitude portion, and the Computer Science subject content are close enough that one serious preparation base serves both applications. You are not preparing twice. You are preparing once and applying to two doors.

The Computer Science subject paper: your home ground

This is where a CS graduate wins or loses the seat. The subject paper draws on the familiar CS core:

  • Programming fundamentals and problem solving.

Candidates from a pure-tech background routinely hand these marks to B.Ed candidates who did not skip them. Study pedagogy as a real section with its own weekly slot. It is a small time investment for a high, reliable return, and it is the part your engineering degree never covered.

You also have a concrete classroom to answer from: a CBSE one with a computer lab, mixed-ability students, and a syllabus you can read end to end. Pedagogy answers written from inside that room read better than answers assembled from a definitions list.

How to split your KVS and NVS preparation

A practical division of effort for a CS graduate targeting both:

  1. The Computer Science subject paper: the largest share. It is your strength and your decider. Build depth that survives a follow-up question.

  2. Teaching aptitude and pedagogy: a steady, protected slice. Small, regular, never skipped.

  3. The general section: a short daily slot, never a final-month sprint. Timed reasoning and arithmetic, awareness as a habit, comprehension kept warm.

  4. Previous-year and practice questions from early on, to calibrate difficulty and style before the last week, not in it.
