At which stage of school education as per NCF 2005, are social science topics…

Concept: NCF 2005 does not introduce Social Science as a stand-alone subject from the very first year of schooling. At the earliest stage, environmental and social awareness is woven into one integrated subject rather than taught as separate disciplines; only at a later, defined stage does the curriculum split it into its own Social Science subject.

Application: Mapping NCF 2005's stage-wise curriculum structure to the classes involved:

1. Classes 1-5 (the earliest stage of schooling): natural and social surroundings are taught together as Environmental Studies (EVS) - there is no separate Social Science textbook here.

2. Classes 6-8 (the stage immediately following the earliest one): NCF 2005 has EVS branch out into distinct subjects - Social Science becomes its own independent subject here, with dedicated History, Geography, and Civics textbooks; Economics is not yet a separate subject at this point.

3. Classes 9-10 and 11-12 (the later, more advanced stages): Social Science continues as an independent subject, now also joined by Economics as a further distinct discipline; but the original split from integrated EVS already happened at the earlier stage.

Cross-check: The NCERT position paper on the teaching of Social Sciences (which informs NCF 2005) states that the integrated EVS approach applies only to the earliest stage, with Social Science emerging as its own subject at the stage right after it. This places the point of independent introduction at the classes 6-8 stage.
