On which river bank the Nasik Kumbh Mela is held at?

The Kumbh Mela is one of four major Hindu pilgrimage gatherings held in rotation roughly once every twelve years, with the exact timing fixed by the astrological positions of Jupiter, the Sun, and the Moon. Each of the four host cities sits on the bank of a distinct sacred river.

The Nashik Kumbh Mela is held at Nashik-Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra, on the banks of the Godavari river (locally also called the Ganga Godavari); "Godawari" is simply a spelling variant of "Godavari".

The four Kumbh Mela sites and their rivers are:

• Haridwar — on the Ganga

• Prayagraj — at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati

• Ujjain — on the Shipra (Kshipra)

• Nashik-Trimbakeshwar — on the Godavari

The Narmada and Tapti are major west-flowing rivers of central and western India, but neither hosts a Kumbh Mela site in this four-location rotation, so both can be ruled out. The Nasik Kumbh Mela is therefore held on the banks of the Godavari.
