Jaipur is the centre of blue pottery in Rajasthan. The craft, of Turko-Persian origin, is distinctive because it uses no clay - the dough is made from quartz stone powder, powdered glass, multani mitti, borax and gum, and is fired at a low temperature. Its characteristic cobalt-blue cobalt-oxide designs give the craft its name, and Jaipur blue pottery holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The other towns are linked to different industries - Kishangarh to marble, Balotra to textiles - and Akola lies in Maharashtra, not Rajasthan.
