Khelo India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports' flagship sports development scheme, is organised into verticals, and each vertical funds one specific kind of intervention. The State Level Khelo India Centre (SLKIC) vertical creates state-level centres where selected athletes receive residential sports training alongside their regular schooling. A vertical of this kind is delivered by adopting existing institutions and their infrastructure through partnership, not by building new campuses, so the number of institutions adopted is a fixed, officially notified list — a figure to be read off the notification rather than estimated.

Applying this to the KVS partnership: under the SLKIC vertical the Ministry tied up with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and the following Kendriya Vidyalayas were adopted as SLKIC centres —

• Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh)

• Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh)

• Kendriya Vidyalaya, Delhi Cantt. (Delhi)

• Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sidhi (Madhya Pradesh)

Cross-check against the scheme's own enrolment data: 90 students — 46 boys and 44 girls — have been admitted across these adopted Kendriya Vidyalayas, and the government bears their lodging, boarding, education expenses, competition exposure, sports training and equipment. Note also that the SLKIC vertical as a whole supports 3,865 athletes (2,465 boys and 1,400 girls) across 67 SAI training centres; the Kendriya Vidyalaya adoptions are a separately named component within that vertical, so the figure asked for here is the size of the notified KVS list, not the training-centre total.

Counting the notified list of adopted Kendriya Vidyalayas therefore gives 4, so 4 Kendriya Vidyalayas have been adopted under the SLKIC vertical in partnership with KVS.
