Large government IT infrastructure in India is often built through a joint venture: the state supplies land or space while a specialised partner brings the capital and runs the facility. NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India) is the not-for-profit body under the Ministry of Electronics and IT that manages internet exchange and registry services in India.

Application

To set up an International Data Centre in Tripura, the State Government signed a joint venture and memorandum of understanding with NIXI-CSC Data Services Centre — a company floated jointly by NIXI and CSC e-Governance Services Ltd. The state provides only the space (at Indranagar, IT Bhavan); the joint venture invests about Rs 150 crore, operates the facility, and hosts all state data free of cost.

Why the others do not fit

• Verizon is a US telecommunications and communications company, with no role in this Tripura state IT partnership.

• Coresite is a US commercial data-centre operator providing enterprise colocation, not a partner of any Indian state government here.

• Digital Realty is a global commercial data-centre operator, unrelated to the Tripura Government agreement.

So the joint venture for Tripura's International Data Centre is the one with NIXI-CSC, formed by NIXI and CSC e-Governance Services Ltd.
