Concept

In a percentage-distribution table, one town whose actual head-count is known fixes the grand total: Total = known count ÷ that town’s percentage share. Every other town’s count then follows as its own share of that total. Inside a town the audience is split two ways at the same time — subscriber versus non-subscriber, and female versus male — so a count that must satisfy one condition from each split is obtained by removing the known part from the whole it belongs to.

Applying it to this data

1. Town E carries 20% of all viewers and has 1200 viewers, so the total number of viewers across the five towns is 1200 ÷ 20% = 6000.

2. Town C carries 28% of that total, so Town C has 28% of 6000 = 1680 viewers.
