Concept — In an embedded-figure question the answer figure is a complete part of the main drawing, kept exactly as it is drawn. Because rotation is not allowed, every segment of the candidate must be found running in the same direction it has in the option: a vertical stays vertical, and a diagonal that falls to the right must still fall to the right. Every junction, every angle and every ratio of lengths is preserved, and the only change permitted is a uniform change of overall size.

Application — Trace the candidate segment by segment onto the main drawing:

  1. Look at the right-hand part of the main drawing, where a vertical edge runs from an upper corner down to a lower corner.

  2. From the upper end of that vertical edge one diagonal runs down and to the left to a single point, and from that point a second diagonal runs down and to the right back to the lower end of the same vertical edge. These three segments enclose a triangle that points to the left and whose right side is vertical.

  3. From the left-hand point of that triangle a vertical line drops all the way to the bottom edge of the drawing.

  4. Two horizontal lines of the drawing cross this dropped vertical: the darker one at the level of the triangle’s lower vertex, and a lighter one below it.

  5. A diagonal falls from the triangle’s lower right vertex down and to the left to the foot of the dropped vertical, and the lower horizontal stops exactly where it meets that diagonal.

  6. All of these lines together — a leftward-pointing triangle with a vertical right side, the vertical dropped from its left apex, the two horizontal crossings and the closing diagonal — reproduce the tall option figure at a reduced size and in exactly the same orientation.

Cross-check — compare the remaining outlines against the same drawing:

  • The divided rectangle carrying a right-angled triangle on its right would need a run of parallel vertical dividers inside a rectangular block; the interior lines of the main drawing that cut across its blocks are horizontal, so this outline cannot be laid over it as drawn.

  • The triangle standing on a horizontal base with a vertical dropped from its apex would need its base horizontal and its apex above; the comparable triangle in the main drawing stands on a vertical side with its apex pointing sideways, and turning it upright is exactly the rotation the question forbids.

  • The downward-pointing triangle with a smaller upward-pointing triangle at its right would need a long horizontal edge closed below by two diagonals meeting at a low apex; the long horizontal lines of the main drawing are not closed off in that way, so the pair of triangles does not sit inside it.

Result — the tall figure made of a leftward-pointing triangle with a vertical right side, seated above a vertical line crossed by two horizontals and closed by a falling diagonal, is the figure embedded in the given figure without rotation.
