Photographs are not easy to ______.

Concept: Communication runs as a cycle of encoding and decoding — a sender turns an idea into signs, and a receiver rebuilds a meaning from those signs. How tightly the rebuilding is constrained depends on how explicit and standardised the sign system’s cues are.
