Read the passage given below and answer the following questions:
Coral reefs are the most biologically diverse ecosystems of the ocean. As divers know, thousands of beautiful fish, mollusks and urchins are among the amazing marine life that live among coral reefs. In fact, the corals themselves are also marine animals. Almost a thousand coral species currently exist in fantastic shapes ranging from mushrooms to moose antlers, cabbages, tabletops, wire strands and fluted pillars. With the majority of humankind living in coastal regions, many people depend on living coral reefs for food and protection from storms and erosion, as well as the additional benefits of medical research, tourism and natural beauty. Coral reefs contribute about 25 percent of the total fish catch in developing countries, providing food for one billion people in Asia alone. Unfortunately, human activities, including those associated with global warming are threatening these animals. Increasing sea temperatures stress corals and cause damage. World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is working to develop and test conservation strategies to better protect coral reefs while also working to stop global warming, the root cause of their destruction.
Coral reefs are important because
A. They contribute thirty five percent of the total fish catch in developing countries
B. Many people depend on them for food
C. They provide protection from storms and erosions
D. They provide food for one billion people in Asia
E. They are the cause of global warming

B and D only

Correct answer: A
Concept
Reading-comprehension combination questions require each labelled statement to be checked against the passage rather than against outside knowledge.
A combination is accepted only when every included statement is supported and no supported statement has been left out.
Application
Statement A changes the passage’s figure from about 25 percent to 35 percent, so it does not preserve the stated fact.
Statement B matches the passage’s point that many people depend on living coral reefs for food.
Statement C matches the stated protection from storms and erosion.
Statement D matches the claim that coral reefs provide food for one billion people in Asia.
Statement E reverses the passage’s causal direction: global warming is described as a root cause of reef destruction, not as an effect caused by reefs.
Contrast
The A–E set contains a changed percentage and a reversed causal claim.
The C–D–E set includes the reversed causal claim and leaves out the supported food-dependence statement.
The B–D set leaves out the supported protection statement.
The B–C–D set contains all three supported benefit statements and excludes A and E.
Result
Therefore, the supported combination is B, C and D only.
