Odisha has colorful fairs and festivals and these are celebrated on many days of the year. Along with brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, the sacred journey of Lord Jagannath goes from Jagannath temple to the divine temple, Gundicha temple, which is known as Rath Mahotsav or Rath Yatra. On this occasion, these deities sit on three chariots—Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, Darpadalan respectively. They stay in the divine temple for nine days and after that return to Jagannath temple. This journey is called Bahuda Yatra. In this great festival of Odisha, lakhs of devotees from India and abroad participate, who pull the sacred chariots on the huge journey route called Badadanda, from Jagannath temple to Gundicha temple and the return journey. This festival starts every year from the second day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadh (June-July). The festival of Lord Jagannath, who is worshipped as the Mahadev of the universe, is not only celebrated in Puri but also at many places in India and abroad.
