Sant Kabir Das, the great 15th-century mystic poet and saint of the Bhakti and Nirguna tradition, spent his final days at Maghar (in present-day Sant Kabir Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh), where he passed away around 1518. He deliberately chose Maghar to break the popular superstition that dying there denied liberation. After his death, both his Samadhi (built by Hindus) and his Mazar (built by Muslims) stand side by side at Maghar, which is why the correct location is Maghar.
