Correct answer: E
Concept: A selection decision-table problem is solved by checking the candidate against each eligibility condition in turn, and then applying the special routing rules. When a candidate meets every condition except one particular condition, the rule attached to that condition — not a plain accept or reject — decides where the case is sent.
Applying this to Geeta, test each condition in order:
Age: as on 1.12.2018 she must be between 21 and 26 years; Geeta is 22 — condition met.
Qualifying marks: a B.Com. applicant needs 62%, and as an SC candidate she is entitled to a relaxation of up to 5% (so 57% would suffice); she scored 71% — condition met.
Extra-curricular award: at least one award is required; she won first prize in a state-level debate competition — condition met.
Family income: it must not exceed Rs 3,00,000 a year; her father’s income is Rs 3,80,000 — condition NOT met.
Residency: she must have lived in India for 15 years or more; she has lived in Amritsar for about two decades — condition met.
Geeta clears every condition except the family-income limit. The criteria state that an applicant who satisfies all conditions except the income condition is referred to the Chairman of the educational foundation. Therefore her case is referred to the Chairman.
Cross-check — why the other decisions do not apply:
Referral to the secretary is reserved for an applicant whose only shortfall is the extra-curricular-award condition; Geeta has that award, so this route does not fit.
She is not selected outright, because she does not meet the income condition.
She is not rejected outright, because a single unmet condition triggers a referral rule rather than disqualification.
The decision is not undetermined: every condition has a stated fact, so ‘data insufficient’ does not hold.
