Correct answer: A
A Selection Decision Table question lists several lettered eligibility conditions plus one or more override/referral rules that fire only when one specific condition is the one left unmet. The method is to check the candidate's profile against every lettered condition in turn. If the profile never states enough information to confirm even a single relevant condition, no selection, rejection, or referral can be certified -- the correct call is that the data given is insufficient, not a guess in either direction.
Condition | Requirement | John Mercy's profile | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
(a) | Age must be 21 to 26 years as on 1.12.2018 | Date of birth / age is never stated | Not verifiable |
(b) | Graduate with B.Com. 62%, B.A. 56%, or B.Sc. 66% | Commerce (B.Com.) graduate with 67% | Met (67% clears 62%) |
(c) | At least one extra-curricular award | 2nd prize, International Judo championship | Met |
(d) | Family income not more than Rs. 3,00,000 annually | Rs. 2,50,000 annually | Met (within the ceiling) |
(e) | Resident of India for 15 years or more | In India continuously since 1980 | Met |
Conditions (b), (c), (d) and (e) are all satisfied, so neither override rule is triggered: the secretary-referral rule fires only if (c) is the condition not met, and the Chairman-referral rule fires only if (d) is the condition not met -- both (c) and (d) are met here. That leaves condition (a) as the only one still to be decided, and the profile never states John's date of birth or age.
Because there is no way to confirm whether John falls inside the 21-to-26-year band, neither "selected" nor "not selected" can be certified from the given facts, and neither referral rule is triggered either, since both of their trigger conditions are met rather than failed.
The information given is therefore insufficient to reach a decision.
