Concept

Linear-arrangement puzzles are solved by translating each relative clue ("third to the left of", "fourth to the right of", "next to the right of", "between") into a fixed position offset, anchoring the chain at any clue that pins an absolute end, then reading a "to the right of X" query directly off the completed line-up.

Application

1. Fiat is third to the left of Ambassador (clue 4), and Fiat is at one end. Since Ambassador = Fiat + 3 must fit within 7 positions, Fiat must be the left-end car: position 1. So Ambassador is at position 4.

2. Fargo is fourth to the right of Fiat (clue 2): position 1 + 4 = position 5.

3. Cadillac is immediately to the right of Fargo (clue 1): position 6.

4. Maruti sits between Ambassador and Bedford (clue 3). Only positions 2 and 3 remain to the left of Ambassador (besides position 7), so Bedford takes position 2 and Maruti takes position 3, placing Maruti between them.

5. The one position left over, position 7, must hold Mercedes.

6. The completed line-up, left to right, is: Fiat, Bedford, Maruti, Ambassador, Fargo, Cadillac, Mercedes.
