Directions (Q.1 –5) :

Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below:

(I) P, Q, R, S, T, V and W are seven members of a family.

(II) Each one of them has a different profession – Doctor, Teacher, Lawyer, Engineer, Architect, Charted Accountant and Banker – and their incomes are different.

(III) There are two married couples in the group.

(IV) R is the Doctor and earns more than the Engineer and the Lawyer.

(V) T is married to the Chartered Accountant and she earns the least.

(VI) No lady is either Lawyer or Engineer.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Key deductions:

  • R is the Doctor and earns more than the Engineer and the Lawyer.

  • T is female, is married to the Chartered Accountant, and earns the least. T cannot be Lawyer, Engineer, Teacher or Banker, so T is the Architect.

  • Q is the Teacher (female) and earns less than P, who is the Banker, so P earns more than Q.

  • No female is a Lawyer or Engineer, so both Lawyer and Engineer are male. V is not the Lawyer, so between the remaining males the Lawyer must be W and the Engineer must be V.

  • The Chartered Accountant earns less than the Lawyer but more than the Banker, so the CA must be S (male) married to T and placed between W (Lawyer) and P (Banker).

Final assignments and salary order (highest to lowest):

  • R — Doctor (highest)

  • V — Engineer

  • W — Lawyer

  • S — Chartered Accountant

  • P — Banker

  • Q — Teacher

  • T — Architect (lowest)

Therefore, P is fifth from the top. Since none of the given position options (Second, Third, Fourth) match, the correct choice is "None of these."
