Sikkim has special status under which Article of Indian Constitution ?

Part XXI of the Constitution, "Temporary, Transitional and Special Provisions" (Articles 369-392), includes a set of articles - Article 371 to Article 371-J - each inserted by a separate constitutional amendment to address the unique historical, social, or administrative needs of a specific state or region.

Sikkim became the 22nd state of India through the 36th Constitutional Amendment Act, 1975, which simultaneously inserted Article 371F, "Special provisions with respect to the State of Sikkim." This article safeguards laws already in force in Sikkim, protects the rights and privileges of the Sikkimese people (including matters of land ownership), and provides for special representation of Sikkim in the State Legislative Assembly and Parliament.

Each of the other Article 371 sub-clauses offered here belongs to a different state, added by a different amendment:

• Art. 371(A) - Nagaland; inserted by the 13th Amendment Act, 1962; preserves Naga customary law and practice, ownership/transfer of land, and administration of civil and criminal justice under that customary law.

• Art. 371(C) - Manipur; inserted by the 27th Amendment Act, 1971; provides for a Committee of the State Legislative Assembly for the Hill Areas of Manipur.

• Art. 371(D) - Andhra Pradesh (and subsequently Telangana); inserted by the 32nd Amendment Act, 1973; empowers the President to secure equitable opportunities in public employment and education across different parts of the state.

Since only Article 371F is tied to Sikkim, the correct article is Art. 371 (F).
