An Assertion-Reason item first checks whether the Assertion (A) and the Reason (R) are independently true, and only then whether R actually explains A -- a Reason can be a true fact that has nothing to do with why A holds.

Assertion (A) is true: Shah Jahan's reign (1628-1658) is recognised as the period when the different strands of earlier Mughal building style -- Babur's early forms, Akbar's red sandstone monuments, Jahangir's refinements -- came together into one harmonious style, visible in the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid, marked by white marble, pietra dura inlay and symmetrical planning.

Reason (R) is also true: this same reign saw an enormous volume of construction activity concentrated in Agra and Delhi.

R explains A here: it was precisely this sustained, large-scale patronage across so many major projects in the same two cities that gave Shah Jahan's architects and craftsmen the continuity and resources to experiment, standardise, and combine elements from earlier reigns into one coherent synthesis.

• The claim that A is false does not hold -- the stylistic synthesis of Shah Jahan's reign is a well-documented fact.

• The claim that R is false does not hold either -- the scale of construction in Agra and Delhi under Shah Jahan is equally well documented.

• The claim that R does not explain A treats the volume of construction as incidental, when it is exactly what gave the synthesis its opportunity to develop.

So both statements are true, and R does explain A.
