The IMD World Competitiveness Ranking does not score an economy with a single number. It rates every economy on four top-level competitiveness factors — Economic Performance, Government Efficiency, Business Efficiency and Infrastructure — and each of those factors is itself built from five sub-factors. So a country carries one overall rank plus four separate factor ranks, and holding 1st position in a dimension means being ranked 1st on one of those four factors, not on the overall table.

Applying that structure to Switzerland, the IMD World Competitiveness Booklet 2025 prints the 2024 and 2025 factor ranks side by side:

Switzerland holds 1st position across both years on two of the four factors — Government Efficiency and Infrastructure. Of those two, only Infrastructure appears among the four choices offered here, so Infrastructure is the dimension this question is asking for. Switzerland’s overall rank itself improved from 2nd in 2024 to 1st in 2025.

Contrasting the near-miss choices:

• Business Efficiency — Switzerland scores well here, but it slipped from 5th to 6th, so it never held the top spot in either year.

• Economic Performance — Switzerland sits at 12th, then 13th, its weakest factor rank; this factor is built from five equally weighted sub-factors: Domestic Economy, International Trade, International Investment, Employment and Prices.

• Employment — this is not a dimension in IMD's structure at all. It is one of the five sub-factors inside Economic Performance, and Switzerland placed 25th on it in 2025.

Hence, among the dimensions offered, the one in which Switzerland held 1st position in both 2024 and 2025 is Infrastructure, covering its basic, technological and scientific infrastructure, its health and environment record and its education system.
