(a) Trojan Malware

Definition :
Trojan Malware is malware disguised as legitimate software. It appears to be a genuine, useful application — but once activated, it carries out whatever malicious action it has been programmed to perform.

Entry :
It enters systems by masquerading as trusted software such as free tools, games, or productivity applications downloaded from unofficial sources — tricking users into installing it willingly without suspicion.

(b) Danger of Trojans Despite No Replication

Although Trojans do not replicate or reproduce through infection (unlike viruses and worms), they are highly dangerous because:

  • Once activated, they execute any programmed malicious action — including data theft, creating backdoors, deleting files, or taking remote control of the system

  • They operate silently after installation, making detection extremely difficult

  • They can open backdoor access for attackers to continuously steal data

  • Their disguise as legitimate software means users actively install them — bypassing security instincts entirely

The name "Trojan" refers to the mythological story of Greek soldiers who hid inside a large wooden horse gifted to the enemy city of Troy. The Trojans accepted the gift, unknowingly bringing the hidden soldiers inside their walls — leading to their defeat.

Similarly, Trojan Malware hides inside apparently legitimate software — the user unknowingly installs it, allowing the attacker inside the system, just as Troy unknowingly let in the Greek soldiers.
