Correct answer: A

We want overall no profit and no loss, so total selling price must equal total cost price (Rs.1500).

  1. Cost price of 2/5 of the books = (2/5) × 1500 = 600.

  2. Sold at 15% loss, so selling price of that part = 600 × 0.85 = 510.

  3. To break even overall, selling price of remaining books must be 1500 − 510 = 990.

  4. Cost price of remaining 3/5 = (3/5) × 1500 = 900.

  5. Required gain % on remaining = (990 − 900) / 900 × 100 = 10%.

So, he should sell the remaining books at a 10% gain.
