Correct answer: A
Solution: Let the cost price of the cheaper clock be x.
Cost price of the other (dearer) clock = x + x/4 = 5x/4.
Selling price of the dearer clock at 10% gain = 1.10 × 5x/4 = 1.375x.
Selling price of the cheaper clock at 7.5% gain = 1.075x.
Total selling price = 1.375x + 1.075x = 2.45x, and this equals 98 given in the problem.
So 2.45x = 98 ⇒ x = 98 ÷ 2.45 = 40.
Answer: Rs 40
