The number of students who passed an exam in school is 82%. The number of boys and number of girls who attempted the exam is in the ratio 2 ∶ 1. If 80% of boys passed the exam, what is the passing percentage of girls?

Number of boys, b = 2g
Total number of students = g + 2g = 3g
Total number of boys passed the exam = 80% of b = 80% of 2g
⇒ 1.6g
Total number of girls passed the exam = x% of g = xg/100
Total number of students passed the exam = 82% of 3g
⇒ 2.46g
∴ 1.6g + (xg/100) = 2.46g
⇒ xg/100 = 0.86g
⇒ x = 86%
