Correct answer: C
A selection-decision-table item is solved by checking a candidate against every baseline condition independently first. A referral/exception clause comes into play only when precisely the one condition it names is the sole condition left unmet, and even then only if the candidate additionally clears that clause's own separate floor; when every baseline condition already holds on its own, no exception clause has anything left to override.
Condition | Requirement | Sudhant's figure | Met? |
|---|---|---|---|
1 — Age | Not more than 25 years on 1 Aug 2017 | Born 24 Apr 1994, so 23 years old on 1 Aug 2017 | Yes |
2 — 10th marks | Minimum 80% | 90% | Yes |
3 — 12th marks | Minimum 70%, any discipline | 85%, science stream | Yes |
4 — Group Discussion | Minimum 70% | 74% | Yes |
5 — Personal Interview | Minimum 60% | 61% | Yes |
Every one of the five conditions is cleared on its own figures, so the plain baseline outcome applies directly: Sudhant Srivastava is to be selected.
Cross-check that neither exception clause is even relevant here: clause (a) overrides condition 3 only when condition 3 itself is unmet, but condition 3 is already satisfied at 85%, so clause (a) has nothing to override. Clause (b) overrides condition 5 only when condition 5 itself is unmet, but condition 5 is already satisfied at 61%, so clause (b) has nothing to override either. With every baseline condition holding and neither exception clause triggered, the selection stands.
