Correct answer: B
Selection-based decision-table reasoning: a candidate is selected only when every stated condition is met. Two referral (exception) rules exist, and each one covers a shortfall in exactly the condition(s) it names: a shortfall in condition (a) alone is referred to the Managing Director, and a shortfall in condition (d) and/or (e) is referred to the Chairman. A shortfall in any other condition — here, (b) or (c) — has no referral provision and disqualifies the candidate outright.
Condition | Requirement | Umesh's Status |
|---|---|---|
(a) | Post-graduate in commerce with 60% marks, or C.A. | Met — PG in commerce with 60% marks |
(b) | Age between 21 and 27 years as on 1.12.2016 | Met — 23 years old |
(c) | Fluency in English | Not met — not fluent in English |
(d) | Able to pay Rs. 10,000 deposit | Met |
(e) | Willing to give a 3-year undertaking | Met |
Umesh satisfies conditions (a), (b), (d) and (e), and fails only condition (c). Rule I (referral to the Managing Director) applies only to a shortfall in condition (a) — not met here, since (a) is satisfied. Rule II (referral to the Chairman) applies only to a shortfall in condition (d) and/or (e) — also not met here, since both are satisfied. So neither referral rule is triggered by a shortfall confined to condition (c).
Every condition (a)-(e) has an explicit status in the passage, so the data is sufficient to decide. With the one failing condition falling outside both referral rules, Umesh cannot be selected as Management Trainee.
