Concept

A sector’s percentage contribution in a year equals that sector’s emission divided by the total emissions of all sectors in that year, multiplied by 100.

To locate the minimum contribution, calculate the same ratio for every year and compare the resulting percentages.

Application

1. For 2005, total emissions = 500 + 200 + 150 + 80 + 100 = 1,030. Industry contribution = (200 ÷ 1,030) × 100 ≈ 19.42%.

2. For 2006, total emissions = 600 + 300 + 200 + 90 + 110 = 1,300. Industry contribution = (300 ÷ 1,300) × 100 ≈ 23.08%.

3. For 2007, total emissions = 650 + 320 + 250 + 100 + 120 = 1,440. Industry contribution = (320 ÷ 1,440) × 100 ≈ 22.22%.

4. For 2008, total emissions = 700 + 400 + 300 + 150 + 150 = 1,700. Industry contribution = (400 ÷ 1,700) × 100 ≈ 23.53%.

5. For 2009, total emissions = 800 + 450 + 320 + 200 + 180 = 1,950. Industry contribution = (450 ÷ 1,950) × 100 ≈ 23.08%.
