A subgroup count is found by multiplying the total by the relevant percentage.

When a subgroup total and one part are known, the remaining part equals the subgroup total minus the known part. The required comparison is the difference between the two combined totals.

Application

1. Finance male employees = 600 × (100 − 40)% = 600 × 60% = 360.

2. R & D male employees = 400 × (100 − 60)% = 400 × 40% = 160.

3. Therefore, male employees in Finance and R & D together = 360 + 160 = 520.

4. Marketing PG employees = 2000 × 60% = 1200, so Marketing PG female employees = 1200 − 900 = 300.

5. HR PG employees = 300 × 80% = 240, so HR PG female employees = 240 − 180 = 60.
