"Suvarnagiri" (Golden Hill) is the ancient name associated with the Jalore Fort. The fort is situated on a steep hill and was an important center of the Chauhan rulers, particularly under Kanhadadeva. Due to its location on the golden-colored hill, it came to be known as Suvarnagiri Durg.
