The format of thesis writing is the same as in

Concept. In academic writing, "format" means the prescribed architecture of a document — which divisions it must carry, in what order, and what belongs in each. Genres are separated by that architecture, not by the research they report: two documents share a format when they are built from the same front matter, body divisions and end matter, even when their subject and length differ.

Application. A thesis is a book-length submission written for the award of a research degree, and universities prescribe a three-part architecture for it: prefatory pages (title page, declaration, supervisor's certificate, acknowledgements, table of contents, list of tables and figures, abstract), a main body of numbered chapters (introduction, review of literature, methodology, data analysis, results, conclusion), and terminal sections (bibliography or references, appendices). A research dissertation is written for exactly the same purpose — an examined submission for a research degree — and is prescribed that same three-part architecture. Where the two terms are distinguished at all, they differ by degree level and therefore by scale (in Indian universities a dissertation is usually the M.Phil. or postgraduate submission and a thesis the Ph.D. submission), not by the divisions each must contain.

Contrast. The other genres named here are shorter, externally governed formats:

• "preparation of a research paper/article" — a journal-length text set out in the IMRaD order (introduction, methods, results, discussion) inside a publisher’s word ceiling and house style; it carries no prefatory certificate pages, no numbered chapters and no appendices.

• "writing of seminar presentation" — speaking material: an outline or slide sequence built around a fixed time slot, where most of the substance is delivered orally rather than set down as continuous chaptered prose.

• "presenting a workshop / conference paper" — a text written to the organiser’s call-for-papers template, held to the page or word ceiling of that submission format and then compressed further into the slot allotted at the event.

Result. The document whose writing format is the same as that of a thesis is therefore a research dissertation.
