Correct answer: D

Concept

In a sentence-rearrangement (para-jumble) task, the correct order is fixed by coherence links: identify the introductory sentence that opens the topic, then chain the rest using time order (dates), pronoun/anaphoric references that point back to an earlier sentence ("the line", "the train", "It"), and a closing consequence or summary sentence. With one sentence pinned as last, you reconstruct the chain from the opener forward.

Application

The passage describes the history of rail transport in Serbia. Build the chain link by link:

  1. The opener introduces the topic in the abstract: "The history of rail transport in Serbia began in the mid-19th century..." — a general scene-setter with no back-reference, so it must come first.

  2. Next comes the first concrete event: "The first rail line ... was inaugurated on 20 August 1854 ..." It introduces "the line" for the first time.

  3. Then the sentence about "Part of the line was located in Serbia ... while the rest is in Romania." The phrase "the line" is anaphoric — it can only refer to the line just named, so this sentence comes right after the 1854 sentence. This is the THIRD sentence.

  4. Chronology continues: "The train initially operated on horse-drawn traffic were later replaced in 1856 by steam locomotives." 1856 follows 1854.

  5. A consequence/summary follows: "The ability of Serbian Railways to transport goods and people efficiently made economic development possible."

  6. The pinned closing sentence beginning "It continued with modified business activity..." is last.

Reading the labels in order gives the sequence C – E – D – A – B – F. Counting to the third position lands on the sentence labelled D.

Cross-check

Verify the two strongest links: "the line" has no antecedent until the 1854 sentence introduces it, forcing that pair to be adjacent in that order; and the dates 1854 then 1856 must run forward. Both checks place D immediately after the 1854 sentence, i.e. in the third slot. The answer is the sentence labelled D.
