Correct answer: D

Concept: Each figure here is a three-leaf pinwheel — three sickle-shaped leaves meeting at a central hub, spaced about 120° apart. Two of the three leaves always carry their unshaded (white) notch close to the hub; the third, longer leaf normally carries its notch further out, nearer its tip, leaving only a slim black sliver beyond the notch.

  1. Figures (1), (2), (3) and (5): the longer leaf's white notch sits roughly two-thirds of the way toward its tip, so only a short black sliver remains beyond the notch.

  2. Figure (4): the same longer leaf's white notch is pulled in close to the hub instead, so the entire outer half of that leaf — all the way to the tip — is solid black, unlike the corresponding leaf in every other figure.

Cross-check: the two shorter leaves keep the notch-near-hub placement in all five figures, so that part of the pattern never breaks. The only structural break is the longer leaf's notch position, and it breaks only in Figure (4). So Figure (4) is the one that does not belong.
