Concept

Each row of this figure matrix follows the same rule: keep only the line-arms that are NOT common to the row's first two panels. Any arm present in both first panels cancels out; whatever arm is left over (their non-common parts) becomes the third panel.

Application

Confirm the rule on Row 1: the first panel has only its lower-right arm; the second panel has only its upper-left and lower-left arms. None of these arms match, so nothing cancels - all three arms carry over, and the given third panel of Row 1 is exactly their union.

Now apply the same rule to Row 3, whose third panel is missing. The first panel is a single diagonal running from the bottom-left corner to the top-right corner, i.e. an upper-right arm plus a lower-left arm. The second panel is an upward-pointing peak, i.e. a lower-left arm plus a lower-right arm.

The lower-left arm is present in BOTH panels of this row, so it cancels. What remains - the upper-right arm from the first panel and the lower-right arm from the second panel - is exactly the figure that must appear in the missing cell.

Cross-check

Row 2 confirms the same rule independently: its first panel supplies the upper-right, lower-right and lower-left arms, while its second panel is the full diagonal (upper-left plus lower-right arms). The lower-right arm is common to both and cancels, leaving the upper-right, lower-left and upper-left arms - exactly the given third panel of Row 2. The rule holds consistently across every row.

So the missing figure keeps only the upper-right and lower-right arms meeting at the centre - figure 2.
