The Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka lie in the Vindhya hill range, in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, about 45 km south-east of Bhopal. UNESCO inscribed the site as a World Heritage Site in 2003, and it is maintained as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India under its Madhya Pradesh state circle.
