Concept

Counselling is a purposeful helping interaction between a counsellor and a counsellee. Its elements are the conditions and processes that must be present inside that interaction for the help to take place.

Standard listings of these elements name the interview as the setting, communication as the medium, and confidence or trust as the relational condition. The working test is therefore: does the item operate inside the counselling encounter, or is it something the counsellor gains over a career?
