Correct answer: D
Let the original cost price be C.
Sold at a loss of 15%: selling price = 0.85 × C.
If bought for 20% less, new cost = 0.8 × C.
If sold for Rs. 147.2 more, new selling price = 0.85C + 147.2.
A profit of 35% on the new cost gives new selling price = 1.35 × 0.8C = 1.08C.
Equation: 0.85C + 147.2 = 1.08C
Rearrange: 147.2 = 1.08C - 0.85C = 0.23C
Therefore C = 147.2 ÷ 0.23 = 640.
Hence the cost price of the bat is Rs. 640.
