Study the information carefully and decide the appropriate course of action for the candidate.
A reputed educational foundation awards scholarships for higher studies abroad to meritorious students who satisfy the stated conditions.
Eligibility criteria as on 1 April 2017
Age: more than 22 years but less than 27 years.
Minimum marks: 65% in B.Sc., 55% in B.A., or 60% in B.Com.
Award: at least one prize in essay, debate, or sports.
Annual family income: not more than Rs. 2,50,000.
Domicile: living in India for at least 15 years.
Concessions
A ward of a farmer receives up to five years of relaxation in the maximum age limit.
An SC/ST applicant receives up to 5 percentage points of relaxation in the marks requirement.
Referral rules
If only criterion 3 (the award condition) is not fulfilled, the case may be referred to the Secretary of the Foundation.
If only criterion 4 (the annual-family-income condition) is not fulfilled, the case may be referred to the Chairman or Chairperson of the Foundation; both terms denote the same office here.
Candidate
Gaurav will be 23 years old on 1 January 2016. He passed B.Com. with 57% marks. His father is a government employee who has worked in Delhi since 1989 and presently earns Rs. 28,200 per month. Gaurav won third prize in a state essay competition.
