Direction: Study the following information carefully and answer the question below. (The numbers given in the figure are treated as fixed seat positions.)

Eight persons — Abhay, Isha, Riya, Rahul, Piya, Diya, Sahil and Sanyam — are seated at eight positions of a figure. Four of them face towards the centre and four face away from the centre.

  • Only two persons sit between Isha and Abhay.

  • Sahil sits second to the right of Abhay.

  • Rahul and Sahil are immediate neighbours.

  • Riya sits third to the left of Rahul.

  • Both Abhay and Isha face away from the centre.

  • Rahul faces the direction opposite to Isha.

  • Piya sits immediately to the right of Sahil, who faces the same direction as Abhay.

  • Sanyam sits second to the left of Riya.

  • Both Sanyam and Piya face the same direction.

Now they play a card game. A shuffled pack of cards is used. In serial order — first Isha draws a card and changes her place as per the conditions below, then Abhay draws, and so on for the others — each person draws exactly one card.

Conditions:

  1. If the card drawn is a spade, the first person to draw a spade moves to position 5 and reverses the direction they were facing; the next spade-drawer moves to position 6, the next to 7, then 8.

  2. If the card drawn is a heart, the person stays at the same position facing the same direction.

  3. If the card drawn is a diamond, the first person to draw a diamond moves to corner 1 facing the same direction; the next diamond-drawer moves to corner 2, the next to corner 3, then corner 4.

  4. If the card drawn is a club, the person stays at the same position but reverses the direction they were facing.

Draws (in serial order):

  1. Isha draws the Queen of Clubs.

  2. Abhay draws the Jack of Clubs.

  3. Piya draws the 3 of Spades.

  4. Rahul draws the King of Diamonds.

  5. Diya draws the Ace of Hearts.

  6. Sahil draws the 9 of Hearts.

  7. Sanyam draws the 7 of Diamonds.

  8. Riya draws the 4 of Spades.

After everyone has changed their place based on the above conditions, who is sitting at corner 2?

Correct answer: D

Concept

In a transformation puzzle the seat changes are driven only by the rules attached to each event — here, the suit of the card each person draws. A 'corner' seat in this puzzle is created by exactly one rule: the diamond rule. By that rule, diamond-drawers are sent to the corners strictly in the order in which they draw — the 1st diamond-drawer to corner 1, the 2nd to corner 2, and so on. So to find who sits at a given corner, you do not need the full initial seating at all — you only need to read off the diamond-drawers in draw order.

Application

Go through the draws in their stated serial order and pick out only the diamonds, because only diamonds create corner placements:

  1. Isha → Queen of Clubs (club, not a diamond).

  2. Abhay → Jack of Clubs (club, not a diamond).

  3. Piya → 3 of Spades (spade, not a diamond).

  4. Rahul → King of Diamonds — this is the FIRST diamond → corner 1.

  5. Diya → Ace of Hearts (heart, not a diamond).

  6. Sahil → 9 of Hearts (heart, not a diamond).

  7. Sanyam → 7 of Diamonds — this is the SECOND diamond → corner 2.

  8. Riya → 4 of Spades (spade, not a diamond).

Only two diamonds are drawn in the whole game: the King of Diamonds (by Rahul) and then the 7 of Diamonds (by Sanyam). The first diamond fills corner 1 and the second fills corner 2. Therefore Sanyam is seated at corner 2.

Cross-check

Confirm by elimination that no other rule can place a person at corner 2: clubs and hearts both keep a player on their original seat (a club only flips the facing, a heart changes nothing), so club- and heart-drawers (Isha, Abhay, Diya, Sahil) can never be at a corner. Spades send players to numbered positions 5, 6, 7, 8 — not to corners — so the spade-drawers (Piya, Riya) are at positions, not corners. That leaves the corners to the diamond-drawers alone, and the second of them in draw order is Sanyam. Note that this conclusion does not depend on the original circle/figure layout, so the ambiguity in the seating description does not change the answer.
