Answer: Rs 10,000

Let the total worth of the stock be x.

Revenue from 30% sold at 10% profit = 0.3x × 1.10 = 0.33x.

Revenue from remaining 70% sold at 10% loss = 0.7x × 0.90 = 0.63x.

Total revenue = 0.33x + 0.63x = 0.96x.

Overall loss = cost − revenue = x − 0.96x = 0.04x.

Set this equal to the given loss: 0.04x = 400 ⇒ x = 400 ÷ 0.04 = 10,000.

Hence the total worth of the stock is Rs 10,000.
