Solution:

  1. Total students = 2200.

  2. Class VI in 2017 = 20% of 2200 = 440; in 2018 after 10% increase = 440 × 1.10 = 484

  3. Class VII in 2017 = 35% of 2200 = 770; in 2018 after 10% increase = 770 × 1.10 = 847

  4. Total of class VI and VII in 2018 = 484 + 847 = 1331

  5. Class VIII in 2017 = 15% of 2200 = 330; in 2018 after 20% decrease = 330 × 0.80 = 264

  6. Required difference = 1331 − 264 = 1067
