Suppose we have a subnet in which 2 host have the IP address of 123.234.78.31 and 123.234.78.28. Now we need to define a subnet mask for this subnet with maximal length prefix( i.e. with maximum 1’s in network ID part of subnet mask). Remember that for every subnet, all 1’s in host ID represent the broadcast address and all 0’s in host ID part represents Network ID. What will be the subnet mask then?
