Correct answer: D

Correct answer: Distinct cultures different from each other co-exist together in a single country.

Explanation:

  • The passage states that people of different sects, castes and religions live together and cooperate to form a single society.

  • When distinct cultural groups coexist and cooperate, their interactions and mutual tolerance produce unity despite cultural differences.

Why the other statements are not the best answer:

  • Saying that culture reflects how people live is descriptive of culture but does not explain the cause of unity amid diversity.

  • Stating that Indian culture is very old is a historical fact but does not address why different groups remain united.

  • Noting that India had an urban civilization is a background fact and does not directly explain the present unity among diverse cultural groups.

Therefore, the statement that distinct cultures coexist and cooperate best answers why there is unity amidst cultural diversity in India.
